Barbarians, Historians and the Construction of National Identities

Ian Wood is a professor at the School of History, University of Leeds. He was a co-ordinator of the European Science Foundation's scientific programme on the Transformation of the Roman World (1992-8).

His research interests focus on the history of the early Middle Ages. His published work has covered:
- The barbarian migrations and settlements
- The history of the Franks
- Cultural history of the post-Roman period
- The history of mission from 400-1050

He is the author of the following publications: The Merovingian Kingdoms, 450-751 (London, 1994), Gregory of Tours (Bangor, 1994), The Missionary Life (London, 2001).
